What we’re up against? $6 billion in higher rates!

In the first half of 2016, here’s what our legal and policy teams are up against:

  • Energy giant Exelon is ramping up the pressure in Springfield to raise our electric bills by up to $1.6 billion over five years.
  • We helped win a U.S. Supreme Court battle to stop power generators from killing a money-saving efficiency program. However, we’re fighting for more reforms as customers face electricity price spikes of up to 30 percent.
  • After helping to negotiate $570,000 in refunds for customers of two alternative power suppliers last year, CUB is pushing for stronger consumer protections before the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC).
  • Chicago gas executives may have tried to hide more than $4 billion in projected cost overruns. (We’re fighting to subpoena those executives.)

Total Battles: $6 billion.

Our April renewal campaign is fast approaching! Over the years, CUB has helped save consumers more than $20 billion, which means for every dollar we’ve raised from consumers we’ve saved them about $300. Please support CUB’s fight to protect your bottom line.
