A slew of Chicago reporters listen as CUB Executive Director Dave Kolata explains big telecom’s move to kill the best phone deals in the state.

Today, AARP and CUB joined forces to launch the Save Our Service (SOS) campaign to block an expected push by big phone companies to completely deregulate local phone service and kill landlines in Illinois.

There are still a significant number of people (Illinois has more than a million residential landlines) who rely on tradtional home phone service as their most reliable and affordable lifeline to family and key services, like 911.
