About CUB

StaffPhotoColor_blogCUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit, nonpartisan utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. On 9/14 I received yet another solicitation for money from CUB. This time asking me to contribute and sign a petition for Representative Kinzinger to “champion legislation that would make the major companies – bla, bla, bla – offer ‘ala carte’ pricing.”
3 years ago we cut (dishnetwork then) and view tv for free over the internet – so far – until that is TAXED and charged for as well.

Why not educate the consumer (since you’re an alleged advocate) on how simple this is to just cut it off rather than asking us to contribute money on top of money that no one can afford to make something that most people can’t afford in the first place . . . ‘ala carte’?
Put these corporations out of business – or at the very least, make them pay attention to the consumer’s discontent by educating the consumer. The alternatives available are numerous for TV, internet, phone services, internet providers etc.
Make it your purpose to do some research yourself (Note: our home phone costs us $8.00/month for local, long distance and calls to Canada and parts of Europe) .and then educate the consumer of their available alternatives. NOT to ask for money we don’t have and to sign letters to send to a Congressman who’ll never pay attention and doesn’t give a rat’s a** about us anyway.
I’m done. No more money from me. Stop sending your worthless propaganda. Save the money on printing and postage.
I’d be interested in who pays your salary oh by the way.
Will be utterly amazed if I get a coherent reply from an intelligent human.
    Nah, that’ll never happen.

      Hi Maria:
Thanks for your spirited comments (reminds me of the kinds of things I hear around the family dinner table at Thanksgiving).

We’ve helped save IL consumers $10 billion over the years in battles with phone, electric, and gas cos. But we’re constantly asking how we could better serve the Land of Lincoln. Although we believe it is always important to send messages to members of Congress, your email has sparked a discussion on what more we could do for cable consumers. Thank you!

We’d be happy to remove you from the membership list–but we need more information. Could you call me, 1-800-669-5556, and give me a postal address so we can accurately identify you and stop sending you mailings? Also, if you have further comments, you can reach me, CUB Director of Communications Jim Chilsen, at the same number. (I swear I am a human and I try to be intelligent and coherent most of the time, although my family might beg to differ at those Thanksgiving meals!)

      Have a good day.

        You’re a good salesman Jim.
Great that you claim to have saved consumers that much money over the years. But you could have done so much more, saved us so much more.
